MEDIA, INFORMATION AND CULTURE [MIDCULT]

 

PRESENTATION

The relationship between Media, Information and Culture is a significant aspect in contemporary history, an era known for its rapid and continuous technological changes, which facilitate mass circulation of texts, images, news, videos etc. This historic trajectory, which began with the printing press and evolved into radio and television, was comprised of a one-way flow of information between broadcasters and audience but would later be profoundly altered with the emergence of the internet and social media.

GOALS

This course aims to qualify communications professionals for work in cultural sectors by: a) reflecting about and elaborating content concerning aesthetic criteria of cultural and artistic projects; b) technically and conceptually analyzing and comparing topics regarding cultural production in Brazil and Latin America, as well as reflecting about and assessing media topics and agendas in general; c) contributing to theoretical studies regarding professional practices in the cultural media sector.

The course encompasses the fundamental areas needed to work in this field, such as:

DURATION

480 Hours | 18 months | Class A - Thusrdays and Fridays, from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm.  

                                    | Class B - Saturdays, from 8h30 am to 6 pm.

 

NUMBER OF ENROLLMENTS AVAILABLE: 60

TOTAL INVESTMENT: R$9,000.00 - Enrollment fee (R$500.00) + 17 installments of R$500.00.

 

I - THE SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process is composed of one single phase:

  1. Candidates interested in taking this graduate course will be interviewed and will have to answer a few questions related to the biography indicated at the end of this document.

II – REGISTRATION FOR THE EXAM

a) Registrations will be conducted exclusively on the website: [ REGISTRATION HERE ], from 01/11/2018 to 14/12/2018 

b) IMPORTANT! After filling out the application form, a payment screen will appear (Pagseguro payment service); however, international candidates should ignore it, since the registration fee does not apply to them.

 

III - THE EXAM 

a) Interviews with international students will be conducted on Skypeâ on a date stipulated by the institution, foreseen for late January. Available dates and testing times will be announced by the institution, and candidates will be able to choose the one that best fits his or her schedule.

b) All candidates must be present on the date and time appointed;

c) Consultation of any kind of material is prohibited;

d) Exam bibliography can be found at the end of this document. 

 

IV - DOCUMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT

a) Candidates approved in the interview will be called up for enrollment. If not present within the appointed time period, the opening will be renounced by the candidate.

b) Candidates approved in the selection process must provide the following to enroll:

1 - A study plan (up to one page long) focused on a cultural topic which he or she intends to study during the course. Access the model here

2 - Copy of ID Card and Passport

3 – Copy of the candidate’s College Diploma or proof that he/she has concluded a college/university degree (bachelor’s degree, undergraduate degree, associate degree, licentiate degree, technologist degree)

4 - Payment of the first installment - R$500,00 (five hundred Reais) in cash or check.

c) Only candidates who turned in all the aforementioned documents during the appointed time period will be effectively enrolled in the course. 

 d) Classes will begin in early March 2019, according to the schedule below.

V - Cases of omission will be settled by the Celacc coordination.

 

SCHEDULE MIDCULT

Exam Registration: From 01/11/2018 to 14/12/2018 

Exam/Interview: Foreseen for late January 2019.

*Candidates will be able to choose the best day and time to partake in the interview, according to the ones made available to them by the institution.

Announcement of results: February 12, 2019

Enrollment: from February 19 through to February 23

Beginning of classes: March 2019

 

EXAM INFORMATION

Interview: Interviews with international candidates will be conducted on Skypeâ, on the chosen date and time, as stated above.
