- Hour-glass: otolith similar to an hourglass; ostial and caudalis excisura present.
- Lobate: otolith with rounded protrusions in form of lobes.
- Pyriform: pear shape.
- Tall: with height greater than length.
- Cuneiform: wedge shape.
- Irregular: without pattern.
- Squared: shape of a square with four right angles.
- Triangular: shape of a triangle with three straight sides.
- Discoidal: circular shape.
- Elliptic: ellipse shape.
- Oval: egg shape.
- Semicircular: one half is circular, the other half varies.
- Rhomboidal: rhomboid shape.
- Pentagonal: with five angles as a pentagon.
