The Superintendência de Gestão Ambiental (Inspectorate of Environmental Management) created  Programa de Incentivo à Sustentabilidade na USP (Sustainability Incentive Program at USP) which objective is to support teaching programs, research, extension and academic management which promote socio-environmental sustainability at USP campuses. Some of the principles which guide the program and suport this proposal can be found below.

- promotion of a healthy environment in the campus;

- public awareness regarding the importance of the conservation of natural resources in the University and its alternatives;

- incentive for the use of sustainability criteria in construction projects and building and urbanized areas recuperation.

Initially, it was intended to build a lounge in the roof of the annex 1 of FDUSP´s building, however, after a meeting with the Superintendência do Espaço Físico da Universidade de São Paulo – SEF (Inspectorate of the Physical Space in the University of São Paulo), project reviews were necessary. Among some reviews, it was decided to initially approve the green roof as a covering, because it would be necessary to take some security and handicapped accessibility measures to indicate its use as a lounge. The restricted budget and the close deadline for the project limited the viability of the implementation of the original idea.

The project´s team is a partnership of professors and professionals:

 - Professor Patrícia Iglesias - Clínica de Direito Ambiental Paulo Nogueira Neto/ FDUSP (Environmental Law Clinics Paulo Nogueira Neto, University of São Paulo Law School)
