Bregmaceros cantori Milliken & Houde, 1984

(Bregmacerotidae, Gadiformes)

Ocorre no Atlântico Sul Ocidental, do Golfo do México até o sul do Brasil. Atinge 76 mm de comprimento. Espécie de hábitos pelágicos, que vive em águas afastadas da costa, comum no Sudeste do Brasil (Figueiredo et al. 2002, Bernardes et al. 2005).

Shape: square to discoidal (82%), hexagonal to discoidal (18%). Anterior region: flattened-round (75%), rounded (13%), angled-round (12%). Posterior region: rounded (46%), angled-round (34%), flattened-round (20%). Dorsal edge: sinuate (86%), sinuate to entire (14%). Ventral edge: entire (76%), sinuate to entire (24%). Anterior edge: entire (59%), sinuate to entire (41%). Posterior edge: sinuate to entire (65%), sinuate (18%), entire (17%). Profile: plane-convex (65%), biconvex (35%). Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: in agreement. Rostrum: absent. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position inframedian, orientation horizontal (69%), slightly descending (31%), opening mesial, morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium oval (63%), elliptic (37%), cauda elliptic.
