Chirocentrodon bleekerianus é uma espécie de pequeno porte que se distribui desde o Panamá até o Estado de São Paulo. Atinge em média 11 cm de comprimento. Alimentase de crustáceos zooplanctonicos, zoobentos e peixes muito pequenos (MUTO et al., 2008; FIGUEIREDO e MENEZES, 1978; FROESE e PAULY, 2013).

Morphology:
Shape: elliptic. Anterior region: peaked. Posterior region: rounded. Dorsal edge: sinuate to entire (72%), entire (21%), sinuate (7%). Ventral edge: serrate to entire. Profile: biconvex. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: in agreement. Rostrum: Developed. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position median, orientation horizontal (93%), slightly descending (7%), opening ostial (72%), pseudo-ostial (28%), morphology pseudo-archaesulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium elliptic, cauda elliptic.
