Cynoscion guatucupa (Cuvier, 1830)

Ocorre no Atlântico Sul ocidental do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil) até a Argentina. Encontrada desde a costa até 194 m de profundidade, em fundos de areia e lama. Alcançam pouco mais de 50 cm de comprimento (Menezes & Figueiredo, 1980; Figueiredo et al, 2002; Bernardes et al., 2005). Alimenta-se de peixes e/ou presas pelágicas (Soares et al.; 2008).

Morphology:
Shape: elliptic (92%), oval (8%). Anterior region: rounded. Posterior region: rounded. Dorsal edge: entire (77%), sinuate to entire (23%). Ventral edge: sinuate to entire (46%), entire (38%), lobed to entire (15%). Profile: biconvex. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: not applicable. Rostrum: absent. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position median, orientation horizontal, opening pseudo-ostial, morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium lateral, cauda strongly curved tubular.
