Decapterus punctatus (Curvier, 1829)

Distribui-se desde o Canadá até o Estado de Santa Catarina (Brasil). Atinge 30 cm de comprimento. Forma cardumes e vive em águas abertas, alimentando-se de copépodos planctônicos (Menezes & Figueiredo, 1980; Menezes et al. 2003).

Morphology:
Shape: elliptic to lanceolated (79%), elliptic (21%). Anterior region: lanceolated-round (79%), angled-round (11%), peaked-round (11%). Posterior region: angled-round (89%), rounded (11%). Dorsal edge: sinuate to entire. Ventral edge: sinuate to entire (75%), sinuate (25%). Profile: concave-convex. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: in disagreement (71%), in agreement (29%). Rostrum: Developed. Antirostrum: underdeveloped (89%), absent (11%). Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position supramedian, orientation horizontal, opening ostial (96%), ostiocaudal (4%), morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum absent, ostium funnel-like, cauda slightly curved tubular.
