Euthynnus alleteratus (Rafinesque, 1810)

(Scombridae, Perciformes)

Ocorre em águas tropicais e subtropicais do Atlântico e do Mediterrâneo. No Atlântico Sul ocidental é encontrado ao longo de toda a costa brasileira até a Argentina. Alcança mais de 1 m de comprimento, vive em águas de superfície desde a costa até alto mar. Alimenta-se de crustáceos, peixes, lulas, tunicados (Menezes & Figueiredo, 1980; Menezes et al, 2003; Bernardes et al., 2005).

Profile: flattened. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: not applicable. Rostrum: absent. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position supramedian, orientation horizontal, opening ostial, morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium funnel-like, cauda elliptic.
