Ocorre no Atlântico Oeste, desde o Canadá até o sul do Brasil, incluindo o Golfo do México. É uma espécie bentopelágica que vive entre 180 e 720 m de profundidade (Bernardes et al. 2005).

Shape: sagitiform. Anterior region: oblique-round. Posterior region: lanceolated. Anterior dorsal edge: sinuate. Posterior dorsal edge: entire. Ventral edge: entire. Profile: plane-convex. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: in agreement. Rostrum: absent. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: Developed. Pseudoantirostrum: Developed. Sulcus acusticus: position median, orientation slightly ascending, opening caudal (83%), ostiocaudal (17%), morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium oval (83%), elliptic (17%), cauda slightly curved tubular.
