Paralonchurus brasiliensis (Steindachner, 1875)

Distribui-se do Panamá à Argentina. Espécies costeira, encontrada geralmente sobre fundos de areia, lama e areia-lama, em profundidades inferiores a 100m. Alimenta-se de poliquetas e crustáceos da infauna e atinge 30 cm de comprimento (Menezes & Figueiredo, 1980; Soares et al.; 2008).

Morphology:
Shape: oblong. Anterior region: oblique-round (95%), blunt-round (5%). Posterior region: rounded. Dorsal edge: sinuate to entire (57%), entire (31%), lobed to sinuate (7%), lobed to entire (6%). Ventral edge: entire (82%), sinuate to entire (18%). Profile: biconvex. Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: not applicable. Rostrum: absent. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position median, orientation slightly ascending, opening pseudo-ostial (97%), para-ostial (3%), morphology heterosulcoid, colliculum heteromorphic, ostium lateral, cauda bent tubular.
