Urophycis brasiliensis (Kaup, 1858)

(Phycidae, Gadiformes)

Ocorre no Atlântico Sudoeste Ocidental no sudeste do Brasil, Uruguai e norte da Argentina. Alcança 600 mm de comprimento. É uma espécie de fundo que habita desde águas costeiras até 190 m de profundidade (Bernardes et al. 2005).

Morphology:
Shape: oblong to lanceolated. Anterior region: oblique to peaked (60%), oblique to peaked-round (17%), oblique to angled-round (17%), oblique-round (3%). Posterior region: lanceolated-round. Dorsal edge: sinuate to entire (90%), lobed to entire (10%). Anterior ventral edge: lobed to sinuate (60%), lobed (23%), sinuate (17%). Posterior ventral edge: sinuate to entire (57%), sinuate (43%). Profile: concave-convex (93%), plane-convex (7%). Rostrum and antirostrum orientation: in agreement. Rostrum: underdeveloped. Antirostrum: absent. Pseudorostrum: absent. Pseudoantirostrum: absent. Sulcus acusticus: position supramedian, orientation slightly ascending (87%), horizontal (13%), opening para-ostial (70%), pseudo-ostiocaudal (30%), morphology archaesulcoid, colliculum monomorphic, ostium absent, cauda absent.
