Edmund Amann

Dr Edmund Amann is Reader in Development Economics at the University of Manchester, Adjunct Associate Research Professor at REAL at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Professorial Lecturer at the School for Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. Prior to his move to Manchester Dr Amann was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford Centre for Brazilian Studies. He has also been a contributing author to the Economist Intelligence Unit. He received his B.A degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge in 1989, his M.A. degree in Development Economics in 1992 from the University of Manchester and a Ph.D. in Economics, also from the University of Manchester, in 1996. He has been a Leverhulme Foundation Research Fellow and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London.

Dr Edmund Amann has published widely in international journals including World Development, Oxford Development Studies and Journal of Development Studies. He has also published a number of books including Economic Liberalization and Industrial Performance in Brazil (Oxford University Press). His work concerns the themes of firm evolution, technological change and competitiveness but he has also been interested in macroeconomic issues, notably exchange rate anchors, inflation and structural adjustment. A special focus of his research has been on firms and the business environment in Latin America. He is currently working on a project examining firm level technological capability building in an emerging market context.
