Categoria do Projeto: sensibilização, conscientização, madeira, hashi
Material(is) Utilizado(s): hashis, acrílico, resina

Objectives: The work was developed with the main objective of making the population aware about the unnecessary and excessive use of the disposable chopsticks (hashi).
Abstract: The project developed is an intervention whose main piece is a physical model formed by a massive hexagonal block of “hashis” (bamboo chopsticks) joined by acrylic resin. The chopsticks used in the model were collected and sanitized by the group and the amount used to constitute the block represents the number of units discarded in just one weekend by a small Japanese food restaurant.
The model was built using a a synthetic acrylic resin that we ended up to find out to be very harmful to the environment due to its production and disposal. With that in mind, the group searched for less harmful materials we could use to replace the synthetic one. We got to the conclusion that a good alternative would be using a natural resin produced from castor bean and banana fibers. Unfortunately, the group couldn’t manage to replace the resin we were already using due specially to the time and money evolved to get this sustainable material. Instead, we added to the presentation this warning an the indication of the existence of a better solution.
To finish and present the project, a presentation board was developed with the gathered information about the production, use and discard of the chopsticks. As a final product the group tried to illustrate the volume of garbage generated by asian restaurants in time using everyday images as examples to help everyone to understand and visualize the amount of material wasted in a city scale.
Key words: Disposable chopsticks, denouncement, residue volume, awareness, conscious consumption.
